“Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life”. We have heard this saying before and it is always a good reminder for us to take a break from our programmed careers. This is something I can proudly say I practice in my busy life. Whatever it is that makes you happy and gives you peace, make sure it becomes a priority. The wonderfulness of life is the feeling of gratitude for the blessings and gifts that have been given to you. Here are a few ways we can de-stress and connect with ourselves.
Visit the ocean. Sit and gaze at the ocean for it is unlimited and magnificent. This incredible surge of energy is enough to unwind your heavy week and leave you tranquil. We love going for a drive down PCH and tasting the ocean breeze.
Go for a 10 minute walk. One human flaw is that we overthink. Going for a serene walk will clear your head and boost endorphins. This time allows for refection while reducing stress hormones. Walk around the neighborhood hills or a park.
Visualize. Take a deep breathe and elaborate on your dream stories. It will immediately promote a better mood and perhaps a smile. The National Institutes for Health recognizes the power of “guided imagery” to elicit a relaxation response. Create your own movie and happy ending!
Feel the music. One of my favorite ways to de-stress is listening to lyrics and melodies that bring wonderful memories. Music can slow heart rate, lower blood pressure, decreases levels of stress hormones, and fill your brain with feel-good neurochemicals like dopamine. Go out for night of music under the stars!
A smart work out session. A quick 30 minute sweat session will instantly reduce levels of tension, elevate and stabilize mood, improve sleep, and improve self-esteem. Inhale positively and exhale doubt!
